The Year of Mud: Natural Building WorkshopsWelcome to The Year of Mud!

We offer a variety of high quality, hands-on Natural Building Workshops each year, including cob building, timber framing, straw bale building, cob oven construction and more. We’re dedicated to creating personalized, meaningful experiences in all of our courses, with the aid of our ten years of natural building and community living experience. Our workshops are a place where you can take your curiosity to the next level, forge new friendships, and return home with essential skills and knowledge that folks often claim exceeded their expectations.

2018 Natural Building Workshops

2016 was the first year that we began hosting Natural Building Workshops at our new land and home, South Slope Farm, based outside of Berea, Kentucky in the amazing Clear Creek community. The latest chapter of The Year of Mud adventure is taking shape on this 28 acre hillside homestead in the gorgeous Appalachian foothills. We’re currently in the planning phases for our 2018 course lineup.

Don’t forget: Sign up for our newsletter and you’ll be the first to know about new workshops and events in 2018 and beyond.

Follow The Year of Mud blog (now in its 9th year) beginning with the construction of a little cob house known as “Gobcobatron”. Gobcobatron has since been featured in a multitude of publications and websites. The Year of Mud chronicles our personal journey in the world of natural building and striving towards a more resilient, handmade life. The blog is full of personal stories and lessons learned about our various building projects and workshops, and our unfolding homesteading expedition here in Kentucky.
